Constructed in Parker, Florida, this single-family home was designed as an affordable, hurricane-resistant home in a region prone to severe weather. The damage caused there by Hurricane Michael in 2018 emphasized the inadequacies of traditional building practices and prompted the building owner to look for stronger alternatives.
Inspired by the resilience of the Sand Palace, a waterfront home on Mexico Beach that survived Hurricane Michael, Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms were selected to construct this house for their proven ability to endure hurricane-strength winds. The Parker property is also located near Tyndall Air Force Base, so it was important that the home’s interior stay quiet despite the regular air traffic.
The concrete core and dual insulation of the ICF walls soundproof the home for a comfortable indoor environment, neutralizing noise from the neighboring airbase's fighter jets. The structure’s durability reassures homeowners of their safety, even during hurricanes, and elevates local redevelopment efforts by highlighting a cost-effective building method that can withstand natural disasters.
With this house's success, 3 new ICF homes are planned for the same street in the coming year.
